The Emergency Department (ED) at UH Bristol and Weston cares for over 75,000 patients a year, our service is open 24 hrs a day, 365 days a year. Within the department is a talented, enthusiastic, innovating, patient safety focused team of over 40 doctors, 100 nurses and around 40 other support staff.

We offer interesting and innovative roles? We have a high impact user team, led by one of our ED consultants and ED matrons, the team have several awards (The BMJ Award 2017, BMJ awards: Prevention category 2017, HSJ value awards 2018 in Emergency, Urgent & Trauma care) for their work in reducing mortality and morbidity and attendances in this patient group.

UH Bristol and Weston ED have a fantastic Emergency Practitioner team with over 22 Emergency Nurse Practitioners and Emergency Paramedic Practitioners providing a 24 hours service. Our developing ACP service comprises of an RCEM credentialed ACP, an ED cardiac ACP, and 3 trainee ACPs. We have an experienced team of advanced physiotherapy practitioners working with the ENP and ACP teams and also run a soft tissue clinic out of the ED.
High quality education is core to everything we do and we have an ED multi-professional website, www.briedteaching.com as well as Whatsapp teaching groups for nurses, SHOs, ENPs. Simulation features heavily in our interdisciplinary approach to teaching both on the shop floor and in the high fidelity simulation suites in the education centre.
Our strong consultant team have national as well as regional roles as part of their varied portfolios, making their knowledge, skills and expertise second to none.
The Paediatric Emergency Department within the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children is the biggest and busiest emergency department specifically for children in the South West of England. We see all children up to 16 years of age presenting with injuries and illness, including children referred from GPs and children referred from other hospitals to see speciality teams within the children’s hospital. We are also the designated regional Paediatric Major Trauma centre and we see severely injured children who are transferred here from across the South West.
