Hi, I’m Hannah, I’m one of the senior staff nurses here at the Bristol Children’s Hospital, and I work in the children’s emergency department. I moved to Bristol in 2015 and took a newly qualified nurse job in the department, and I’ve been there ever since.
I did a quick stint up in pediatric oncology, because this hospital loves giving secondment opportunities to its nurses and last year I was a pediatric resuscitation officer and worked across both the children’s hospital and within adult services as well.
I came to Bristol Children’s Hospital because of its reputations. I love working here because there is every speciality, under the building and under the roof, which means you get to look after children from all over the southwest, with all different illnesses and injuries, and from a clinical point of view, that’s really interesting. Also, I love that I don’t feel like a number in the system, I feel like I’ve joined a team that has become a family, and I’ve become part of that family and that there are people here that want to invest in the individuals that are working for this organization, and I love that. I also love the people in Bristol, and the people that you get to meet every single day.
If there’s any part of you that’s contemplating moving to Bristol to work, or to live, I would say that once these restrictions lift, then you should just come and see it. Come walk round the hospital, come walk round the city. It’s an amazing place to work. I have worked in the emergency department for four years now and honestly, I feel like part of the family. You don’t feel like a number in an organization, there’s secondment opportunities, there’s every speciality here and also they love to invest in you. I just recommend that if there’s any part of you that’s contemplating it, be bold, get in that car when you can and come and see it for yourself.
